Memory Verses (Fall 2020)
Week 1: August 21
And while they
were gazing into heaven as He went, behold, two men stood by them in white
robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This
Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you
saw him go into heaven.”
Week 2: August 28
But the day of
the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a
roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth
and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Week 3: September 4
“Let not your
hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house
are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a
place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and
will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
Week 4: September 11
So Christ, having
been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to
deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Week 5: September 18
“But watch
yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness
and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it
will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at
all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that
are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Week 6: September 24*
Behold, he is
coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him,
and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. “I am
the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who
is to come, the Almighty.”
Week 7: October 2
Therefore, stay
awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that
if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was
coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken
into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour
you do not expect.
Week 8: October 8*
And now, little
children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not
shrink from him in shame at his coming.
If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure
that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
Week 9: October 16
For you
yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief
in the night. While people are saying, “There is
peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as
labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise
you like a thief. For you are all children
of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the
darkness. So then let
us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.
Week 10: October 23
And this is the
will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given
me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that
everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and
I will raise him up on the last day.”
Week 11: October 29*
Then
the Lord will
go out and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle. On that day his feet shall
stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east,
and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a
very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the
other half southward.
Week 12: November 6
Their end
is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their
shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it
we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who
will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by
the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
Week 13: November 12*
But
understand this, that in the last days there will come times of
difficulty. For people
will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant,
abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without
self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous,
reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers
of God.
Week 14: November 20
For whoever
would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will
save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses
or forfeits himself? For whoever
is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be
ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and
of the holy angels.
Week 15: December 4
I have
fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me
on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his
appearing.
Week 16: December 11
Then I
saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it
is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes
war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on
his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one
knows but himself. He is
clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called
is The Word of God. And
the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were
following him on white horses. From
his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations,
and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the
winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a
name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
